World-renowned Child-birth Educator to visit Mercy Fitzgera

Yeadon, PA September 30, 2025 – In collaboration with managed care agencies since 2007, the Pettaway Pursuit Foundation (PPF) has provided care for over 1,100 expectant and new mothers in select counties in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Their signature program, Doula By My Side, offers non-medical assistance before, during, and after child birth to pre-identified, high-risk members of Keystone First, Health Partners, and Tufts Health Plans. PPF’s doulas provide key informational and emotional support which ensures improved maternal and birth outcomes.
On October 29th, the Pettaway Pursuit Foundation is extending their support to caretakers of mothers in the region and is bringing world-renowned child birth educator, Penny Simkin to Mercy Fitzgerald hospital for a day-long seminar.
The Pettaway Pursuit Foundation invites practicing or aspiring child birth professionals- nurses, doulas, social workers, midwives, massage therapists, etc. - to participate in By Their Side – Equipping the Childbirth Professional…a Day Long Birth Seminar with Penny Simkin.

Penny Simkin will lead the seminar by covering the following topics:
- Replacing the Fear of Birth with Confidence, Courage, & Knowledge: The Role of the Childbirth Educator & the Doula
- When Pain Becomes Suffering: How Nurses and Doulas can Help Prevent Suffering During & After Birth
- Bringing Out the Best in Our Amazing Babies (and Ourselves!)
Participants will also learn about insurance reimbursements from a local insurance provider. This event will be a great professional development and networking opportunity for regional professionals. CEUs are available from DONA International for doulas and American College of Nurses/Midwives (ACNM) for nurses and midwives.
