Dr. Pam Williams has been a nurse for 45 years but only 43 years in maternity nursing.
I have given patient care on a maternity unit, I have managed a prenatal and gynecological clinic, I have taught maternity nursing and health assessment courses as well as a course that taught critical thinking. I once was rather burned out of management, so I took a job selling ski clothing and thermal underwear!! I did go back to teaching and then back to staffing on a maternity unit. I love caring for moms and babies in labor and in postpartum. My focus in patient care has been presenting perinatal depression as a situation that can be treated successfully so it is less scary. When my students would get all anxious during class and especially during tests, my favorite go-to phrase was, breathe. Breathing seems to make everything just a little more manageable.
Since spending time on the board of Pettaway Pursuit Foundation I have grown very impressed with this organization. The people associated here are all dedicated to helping the community of families. The doulas and CLCs put every bit of energy into their member's lives. The creativity to get around the COVID-19 restrictions is challenging but we're learning how to fill the member's needs. The Pal for Parents classes are informative and informal enough to encourage a conversation with those who join. This foundation is amazing.
