Theresa Pettaway, a mother of three (3) premature infants founded a non-profit organization called Pettaway Pursuit Foundation in 1999. After Mrs. Pettaway experienced the anxiety of early labor, the terror of seeing her newborns in intensive care and the fear of caring for the fragile infants on her own. Her infants ranged in size at birth 1 pound 9 ounces to 4 pounds. She spent seventeen years of overcoming many traumatic experiences with only God and her husband of eight years by her side. Mrs. Pettaway turned her experience into a healing process by giving back to the public and making a difference in the lives of other families facing similar situations. She was inspired to pursue her mission by single handedly building an organization designed to provide special services that were unavailable to her during the year she delivered her preemies.
Theresa Pettaway�s diligent spirit led her to resign from her job over a year ago to pursue this mission full time. She built the company by using money from her own personal savings and by moving in with a relative to cut expenses. This has left her in financial distress. With the help of volunteers, this year the Pettaway Pursuit Foundation has been able to reach out to more families in need.
Pettaway Pursuit Foundation is a non-profit organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Pettaway Pursuit Foundation is comprised of a group of supporters that act as mentors, providing special services to families with premature infants and mothers on bed rest due to high-risk pregnancies.
Each year in the U.S., over 476,000 premature infants are born and over 700,000 women are placed on bed rest due to high-risk pregnancies. These staggering statistics are growing at a rapid rate each year with the increase of stress, obesity, AIDS/HIV, multiple births due to the use of fertility treatments, and women opting to have children in their mid-thirties and beyond.
Pettaway Pursuit Foundation has recognized a need for support and other services for many families faced with high-risk pregnancies and premature births. Some of the services currently offered by the organization include mentor support, home and hospital visitation and contracted massage therapy. These services are provided to the public at little or no charge. Pettaway Pursuit Foundation is presently serving clients in Hahnemann Hospital and St. Christopher�s Hospital for Children. The organization also provides information and education by hosting seminars, rap sessions, workshops and via website. With the help of funding, the Pettaway Pursuit Foundation will be able to implement its laptop lending, grocery delivery and temporary housing programs. However, with outside funding or contributions, the company cannot expand to its full potential.
