Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, most Americans’ lives have been affected – people have lost their jobs, and schools were on lockdown, which increased food insecurity. According to FeedingAmerica.org, food insecurity can lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity. Food insecurity has a more serious effect on children. It leads to delayed physical growth and mental health development.
The Harvest Food Program is a program that provides nutritious meals and food to families. Our goal is to increase food security, enhance physical and mental wellness, and improve children’s growth and development.
PPF identifies that funding such a program is not easy. Therefore, we partnered with Nutritional Development Services in May 2020. Every Monday, we distribute 150 Emergency 5-day Meals to families with school-aged children. Furthermore, PPF partnered with Keystone First twice to do a pop-up food drive where we served fresh produce, meat, and dairy to over 1,000 individuals.
